Eastside Gallery

At a length of 1.3 kilometers 118 artists from around the world  painted in spring 1990, a piece of the Berlin Wall. There was the East Side Gallery. With its motley collection of political and poetic paintings it is a unique attraction. Situated between Berlin's Ostbahnhof and Oberbaumbrücke along the Spree River, it is now a listed building. Unfortunately, car exhaust and vandalism speed up the destruction of the East Side Gallery. The concrete is crumbling, the steel rusts, the images are faded and mostly painted over with graffiti. Several motives have already been restored. In October 2008 rehabilitation began. The work should be completed until the 20th Anniversary of the Berlin Wall in November 2009.
